Gasification is a thermochemical process which produces a fuel gas from
solid and liquid feedstocks. Produced gas, syngas, is mainly consists of CO and
H2 and trace amounts of CO2, CH4 and other
gases. Common types of gasification systems are chemical reactors, which are
categorized generally in fixed bed, fluidized bed and entrained flow gasifiers.
Different processes occur in gasification which should be considered such as:
evaporation and drying, pyrolysis, combustion, heat and mass transfer and fluid
dynamics. In this research group fundamental and systematic studies on
different aspects of gasification are done and still are investigating. Some of
these studies are as follows:
- · Modeling of biomass gasification in fluidized bed gasifiers
- · Modeling of gasification of various feedstocks for hydrogen production
- · Simulation and exrgy analysis of Integrated Gasification Combined Cycle
(IGCC) for power generation from coal
- · Feasibility study and conceptual design of an IGCC for Tabas coal
- · Simulation and conceptual design of cryogenic air separation unit for IGCC
- · Modeling of heavy fuel oil and refinery residue gasification
- · Investigation of behavior of heavy fuel oil droplet in gasification and
combustion
- · Study of spray gasification and combustion of heavy fuel oils
